Ticket.

So it finally happened. We (and by we, I mean Grant) got our first driving ticket. Although I'm pretty confident we could have avoided this dreadful moment, considering Indian policemen are typically on foot... it happened. For what? An illegal u-turn.

In the US, at least for me personally, this is a time to panic. The cop pulls you over, and there's no telling what the ticket could cost... It means dreading having to tell your parent or spouse. It means deciding how you're going to pay for it. And for me, it means waiting until the last possible day to pay it.

In India, it's another story. You have to pay on site. Thankfully our wallets weren't empty that day because it cost us........ 100 rupees. For those of you not accustomed to India's currency system, brace yourselves... that's a whopping two dollars. TWO. To put it in perspective... it costs more than that to buy a pack of Nerds at the import store.

What's hilarious (maybe hilarious isn't the right word for getting in trouble with the law?) is that I got pulled over at the same location a few weeks back. If you don't take this u-turn, you have to go nearly 30 minutes out of your way to get to our house. Ridiculous. And it's a perfect place for a u-turn... There's even an often-functioning streetlight! I, however, did not get a ticket. Upon examining my driver's license, they realized I was a foreigner (because my skin and hair color did not give it away). They smiled giddily and waved me onward. What.

We're debating on whether or not it's okay to consider the two dollars a mere toll to use the u-turn.

Just another day in India. :)

Off to a Slow Start...

Well. I finally did it. I've been wanting to start a blog for about a hundred years, and I actually created this blog several months ago... but apparently it took me a while to get around to posting! ;)

I wanted a place to document all the craziness in my life and share it with others.

So here goes... :)
